Following cataract surgery, some patients develop an opacity of the structure called the capsular bag which holds the artificial lens in place. This results in gradual blurring of vision. This can happen several months or many years after the surgery. This is not a complication but simply part of the post-operative course.

The treatment is safe, painless and quick. It involves making a very small opening in the opacified capsule with a laser. This is sometimes referred to as “polishing the lens”. The procedure is done in clinic and takes only a few minutes. As the procedure is painless, no anaesthetic is necessary and patients can resume normal activities straight away. In vast majority of patients, only one treatment per eye is necessary.
