Our expanding team!

My eye specialist is growing! We are very pleased to welcome highly skilled Dr Chameen Sams to our Robina rooms on the Gold Coast, Queensland!

Dr Chameen Sams

Dr Chameen Sams is a corneal/external eye diseases specialist and anterior segment surgeon with an interest in providing comprehensive general ophthalmology expertise for his patients.

Dr Sams was the youngest recipient of the Clancey-Donald Fellowship, which sparked his interest in research. Subsequently he completed his PhD in ophthalmology at the University of Sydney, being awarded a competitive NHMRC scholarship as well as a NHMRC grant for his research. Dr Sams has written over 35 peer-reviewed publications and is a reviewer for multiple leading international scientific journals. He has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences. He is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.Dr Sams graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales and completed his ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. With a keen interest in corneal transplant surgery, he completed a corneal fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, one of the few centres in Australia that performs limbal stem cell transplants. Dr Sams comes to the Gold Coast with expertise in cataract surgery with insertion of premium lenses, pterygia, keratoconus, collagen cross-linking, corneal dystrophies and endothelial diseases, herpetic eye disease, as well as complex anterior segment reconstructions. Dr Sams also has an interest in general ophthalmology and has expertise in age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy disease.
